At a production cost of $200 million, Titanic is to date the most expensive movie ever produced. At a three and a half hour runtime, it is also one of the longest. For all this money and for all this time, however, what Director James Cameron delivers is an amazingly powerful and compelling drama that, at least in my opinion, is worth every penny spent on it. As you'd expect from a Cameron production (Aliens, The Abyss, T2), Titanic is a technical wonder of a movie. The reproductions of the Titanic as sunk ship and as new ship are simply incredible, and the nearly "real-time" re-enactment of the Titanic's tragic final hour leaves an indelible impression. If this is what you're looking for in Titanic, run to the theaters now!
Disaster-movie fans be warned though, there's more to Titanic than the sinking of a very big ship. At heart this Titanic is really an epic love story, and in this again it's a very good one. The two main characters in the romance are Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet). Jack, the poor wandering American scraping his way through life, and Rose, the upper-class society girl who feels trapped in her existence--two people from different worlds brought together on history's grandest and most tragic ocean voyage. Is this simply Romeo and Juliet at sea? Maybe, but it works. Credit DiCaprio and Winslet for some great on-screen chemistry and individually charismatic performances, producing some of the most intimate and compelling moments in recent memory. Indeed, the powerful love story in the midst of impending tragedy helps Titanic resonate on many levels, not only bringing the events of April 14, 1912 to life, but personalizing it through the eyes, ears, and hearts of Jack and Rose. Titanic is a story of friendship, love, courage, and sacrifice...what more could you ask from a $200 million film?
With an effective supporting cast including Kathy Bates, Bill Paxton, Billy Zane, and Gloria Stuart (who is wonderful as the 101-year-old Rose), Titanic is definitely a film to see. Is this a technically stunning disaster film or an emotionally moving love story? Well, it's both!

I admit that I refused to watch the movie, up until now in 2001 because
I was afraid I found myself in the similar situation between Rose and Jack,
only that a distance separated us. I`m in Wisconsin, he`s in Africa. I
loved the art, the chemistry, and the intelligent conversations. I couldn`t
stop crying. And for the guys who hate it, I think I know why. You are
afraid of love. Somebody in your life hurt you so bad that you couldn`t
appreciate true love. Whether your mother, or your absent father or whoever.
And your only conclusion was, "Love stinks". Your hatred for
this film is obvious and shows everyone that you are either avoiding love
because you think those in love are "weak" or you are simply
afraid of it. Face it! You may blame the actors, I don`t care coz everyone

simply like Titanic because Leo is in it are very sad. More to the point

better/well plotted/scripted/acted films, you would think that the biggest
budget movie would comply to some of these. Well, you would be wrong. If
this was coming from the Emmerich/Devlin camp I would expect sh*t on a

it, I though Aliens was good, as well as Abyss, and as this was his pet
project I expected him to drop his awful scriptwriting style and choice

has made some incredible films.. (The early stuff mainly) and when I heard
he was going to make 'Schindlers List' I was so excited because I knew

I had. So in parralel I also expected a lot from Cameron... Man did he
fail... BADLY, to meet any of my expectations. Here are all the flaws -
The script is so bad.. So bad. (Who in that century flicked the bird??
NO ONE!) There were SO MANY bad mistakes Historically. (For example the
first mate did NOT shoot anyone then commit suicide.. He got off and received
commendations from the government for bravery. BTW: Cameron got sued for
this) The effects were not that great.. I could see some bad animation
expecially of the passengers on deck. The acting... BAD BAD BAD.. Leo will
face God when he gets to heaven, and God will be waiting to kick his arse
for his acting in this. The only redeeming people were David Warner, Kate
Winslet (Hey, she's great) and the captain (All English.. Coincidence?
I think not). Also did you notice how all villans/incompetant people were
English (Except Billy Zane)- All Heros were Yankee (Except Billy Zane)
and all victims were Irish? So did I. The only good thing was the sound
mix (the 5.1 separations at the end was impressive to say the least), the
costumes, the design and cinematography.. THAT IS IT! And no I don't not
like it because of the romance.. (Hell I loved 'Always') It was just so
badly done. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ... Let the Titanic remain sunk and DO

son see the movie. I was under the impression that any nudity got an R

However, I found the flash-back, flash-forward sequences distracting, and

it is largely reminiscent of Braveheart. Nonetheless, it deserves all the

one of his finest film productions to date. While the effects were dazzling,
what made Titanic more exciting was the chemistry between DiCaprio and
Winslet. The first half of the movie (the *romance* side), in my opinion,
surpassed the second half (the *action* side). I usually hate Billy Zane
with a passion, but he was perfect for the role of the sleezy fiance. The
visuals of the real Titanic set the movie up as interesting, decent viewing,
while the ending brought a tear to my eye. A wonderful film. Oh, I forgot
to mention how brilliant the score was. The music deserves every Music-in-Film
