SCREAM 3 (R)
Reviewed February 13, 2000 - Check out the Scream 3 Website.
Studio Synopsis: Scream 3 takes place in Hollywood during production of "Stab 3, Return to Woodsboro", a thriller which raises troubling questions about the events that terrified the town of Woodsboro--and continue to haunt Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell). Three-and-a-half years after leaving Windsor College, Sidney has settled into a life of quiet seclusion in Northern California. But that uneasy peace is shattered when terror erupts on the set of "Stab 3". Things take on the eerie feel of déjà vu as the actors in the production get plucked out one-by-one...
Fuzzydog Review: I've always believed that the popularity of the original Scream was based on one very critical element: that Scream set out to make fun of the horror genre. It was tongue-in-cheek, sassy, and with a wild sense of humor that aimed to scare you and make you laugh. Well, we're into the third installment of Scream now and I hate to say it, but they sure don't make 'em like they used to. Sure, Scream 3 brings back the same central cast of characters (including Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox-Arquette, and David Arquette) to the proceedings, but noticeably absent in this third installment is any sense of the fun, humor and camp that made the first movie such a joy to watch. It's too bad really, since many of the characters in this very successful series are both quite interesting and likeable. As it is, you have in Scream 3 a movie that takes itself slightly too seriously, and one that ultimately loses the quality that made the original Scream special in the first place. For a horror flick, Scream 3 isn't bad....but if you expect more than a "not bad" horror flick out of Scream 3, you might be somewhat disappointed.

Rampant Rain gives this movie stars: "I am one of the those people who gawked over Scream and was baffled by Scream 2 (that's a good thing). Along came Scream 3. It starts out as one of the more 'modern horrors' such as "Wes Craven's New Nightmare" because of the movie within a movie central theme and it is frightening. The opening sequence, although not as good as Drew Barrymore (but would anything be?) however it is intense. The characters are good in this film like the other two and they really drive it. Scream 3 IS much different to the other two and has a really different mood. I think some people are turned off by it, but it is still really cool. There are some really amazing moments in the film that are frightening and original, and there are some ghastly revelations at the end which like all the Scream movies have been fantastic (and yes, he/she IS better than Mrs Loomis from Scream 2 - but i will not say anything or reveal the number/names of the killer/s) Ha ! OKay, so the main point of my review is to slash back at those critics who say that it is dull and unoriginal. To ye I say : HA ! This is one of the best flicks I have seen because of the great comical moments that lead into great horror moments. If you wantmy opinion on where it is rated within the trilogy, I willeasily tell you that Scream 3 is by far the best one, because it is truly worth your while and enjoyable. Go and see it and I bet you will feel the same way as me." (3/4/00)
