THE PRINCESS BRIDE (PG)
"Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles..." I guess that says it all... If you haven't seen this movie yet, you're really missing out on something special. The fairy tale story of Westley and Buttercup, directed by Rob Reiner and starring Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, and Andre the Giant (among others) provides great entertainment over and over and over again. (I know because I've watched this movie many, many, many times and it still hasn't lost its magic.) It's a fairy tale movie dripping with charm and blessed with a grand sense of humor.
IMPRESSIONS
Best Line Delivery: Hallo, ma name is Inigo Montoya... (well, you know how the rest goes...)
Second Best Line Delivery: Twoo Wuvvvv...
Famous last words: You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous...is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well known is this...never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!...Hahaha haha ha...ahahahahah ahahaha - thump.
Only Buttercup could pull off this line: "You can't hurt me. Westley and I are joined by the bonds of love, and you cannot track that--not with a thousand bloodhounds, and you cannot break it--not with a thousand swords, and when I say you are a coward, that is only because you are the slimiest weakling ever to crawl the earth."
Princess Bride words and phrases: "As you wish...", "Inconceivable", "Surrender!", "Humperdink", "Mawige", "My name is...", "Rodents", "I swear it will be done", "Fezzik", "True love", "The Pit of Despair", "Booooo!"
My only complaint: Peter Falk's voice constantly cutting in on narrative...

willmatt@theremc.com
gives this movie stars: "I
LOVE this movie. I laugh hysterically every time I watch it. Although I
am still slightly confused about who exactly wrote the book. The movie
is written by William Goldman and is supposed to be based on his book which
is supposed to be an abrigded version of the book by Simon Morgenstern.
I've heard theories now that it was written by students from the University
of Chicago as some sort of econic policy statement. And that William wrote
both books and abridged his own work to make a statement. Apparently it
all gets back to money because Florin (which obviously was never a real
Europeon country) which is where the story is set is actually a form of
ancient Europeon currency. So is Guilder (the county Florin is the enemy
of). So if anyone knows for a fact the behind the scenes story of this
movies complex background let me know. But again I have to say I love the
book (I read the supposed abridged version of the Morgenstern book by Goldman),
and love the movie even more in a way, and highly reccomend both to anyone
looking for something that will entertain people of all ages." (5/23/98)
