LIAR LIAR (PG-13) 

Okay, I laughed.  A lot.  

In Liar Liar, Jim Carrey stars as Fletcher Reede, an attorney who schmoozes and charms his way through his busy life.  Flattery, deceit, whatever it takes to get the job done--both as an attorney, and in his personal life, Fletcher can talk his way through anything.  One day, however, Fletcher's five-year old son Max (Justin Cooper) changes the rules.  Tired of being disappointed by his father (who never shows up when he says he will), Max makes a wish on his birthday: "I wish, for just one day, that my dad couldn't lie."  That's twenty-four hours of unadulterated truth, folks, and when Max's wish somehow magically takes hold of his father, all hell breaks loose--figuratively speaking, of course.

"Oh, I'm doing fine this morning."  "Oh, I love your new hairdo."  "Hey, have you lost a little weight lately?"  NOT!!!!

What would life be like if we couldn't tell even the most insignificant lie?  For most of us it would be pretty scary, but with Jim Carrey at the helm it's simply very funny.  With every contorted face, twisted gesture, and pained expression he can come up with, Carrey grabs for every laugh possible, and he gets them.  We're firmly in the realm of the ridiculous with Liar Liar, but if you can accept that fact you're in for more than a few great laughs.

Go see Liar Liar.  You'll like it.  I promise.
