"Yes, Mr. President..."
THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT (PG-13)
Director Rob Reiner's really getting good at the When Harry Met Sally type of movie (by the way, he directed When Harry Met Sally). The American President is a light, entertaining romantic comedy set in our very own White House. The film stars Michael Douglas and Annette Bening, who both turn in strong performances in their respective roles. What's the story about? Let's put it this way:
This is the President, and it's an election year...
This is the President's girlfriend...
Any questions?
Okay, okay, you've got questions...just go and watch the movie. It won't hurt, I promise...
IMPRESSIONS
I didn't mention this but: Martin Sheen, Michael J. Fox, and Richard Dreyfuss are also in this film. Oooh, now you really want to see it, right?
Do you think: they'll ever come out with a movie called The American Vice President? Nah, that would be too boring....

Annie gives this movie stars: "This
charming, romantic comedy has put a new perspective about, not only love,
but also about how we americans view our current events through the eyes
of the media. Rob Reiner has made another triumphant leap to greatness.
There is no other director who could of pulled it off. I HIGHLY recommend
this movie to anyone. It is one of the jewels of modern cinema." (12/6/99)

gives this movie stars: "I
loved the movie! I'm only 15, and so most people would assume I don't really
care about politics, but this movie really kinda made it interesting. The
relationship between the characters of Michael Douglas and Annette Bening
is just amazing - it proves that love will withstand anything, even the
disapproval of the U.S.A. Michael Douglas also does a great job playing
the role of the president. I think we oughtta have a president like "Andrew
Shepherd."" (8/23/98)

gives this movie stars: "What
made this film so interesting is that it managed to concentrate on the
troubles of politics and the effect a sexual relationship could have on
the President's political regime without being too soppy. However, it was
sweet, and highly enjoyable. The blend of humour was delivered well by
the two stars." (7/3/98)

gives this movie stars: "This
was a very enjoyable and entertaining movie. Michael Douglas seems to do
drama better than comedy, but Annette Bening more than made up for it in
this movie. Still, these two witty actors could have been used better -
I would have liked to have seen more done with the repartee between them,
as we saw between Douglas and Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone." (1/2/97)
